News for July 24, 2006July 21, 2006 - Birth Pangs of the New Middle
East Matthew 24:3-8 Sorrows (G5604) ὠδίν 1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 I believe these birth pangs have been started for some time now. These “birth pangs” in the Middle East will ultimately lead to sudden destruction after an apparent time of peace. I find it interesting the wording being used by officials has so many parallels with prophecy and what is happening in the Middle East right now. When the government and mainstream are using prophetically charged terms, I think that's a good wake-up call to those who believe to watch. A new “peace” will arise out of the turmoil in the Middle East right now, but it will be a false peace that will be broken by the one who creates it. Look for a great leader to arise out of this ongoing conflict doing what seems impossible, stopping the wars. There is lots of news happening right now. I encourage everyone to try to understand and watch. Please feel free to share any thoughts or news you have and have a wonderful week!
UNCOVERED: RUSSIAN-SYRIAN-IRANIAN AXIS (July
24, 2006) - For students of Bible prophecy, even the title of this
communiqué should set off alarm sirens. I just received some electrifying
intelligence data. First, from the Debka-Net-Weekly’s briefing. And second,
from some personal intelligence sources (I carefully guard) that confirm
Debka’s report. Russia, Iran and Syria have entered a defense pact that
is in the process of altering the balance of power in the entire Middle
East. Russia’s part in the pact has been kept relatively secret for a long
time. But the facts reveal a long steady Russian commitment to the Iranian
nuclear program and arms supply to Syria. A Mossad General shared with me
in confidence that he had personally traced the hiring and importation to
Iran 283 of the defunct Soviet Union’s top nuclear and missile scientists.
This meeting took place in February of 1991. I shared this information with
no one until nine months later when it was first made public (although strangely
not followed up by the mainstream media). All Russian leaders continued
and expanded this agreement to this day, especially our supposed friend,
Vladimir Putin. Russia has helped the Iranian nuclear program from its inception.
Hundreds of Russian scientists with their families live around the some
twenty scattered nuclear related facilities. Russian ‘Spetznaz soldiers’
(special forces) guard all the key nuclear facilities. Iran has had some
help on missile development from the North Koreans. But even their missiles
are based upon Russian designs. The unmistakable culprit in China, North
Korea and Iran’s nuclear development has been the Soviet Union and continued
by Russia. The Soviet Union’s motivation for helping China and North Korea
was primarily ideological. Russia’s primary reason is hard cash, although
now, it is taking on a strategic importance as well. So here are the disturbing
hard facts about what is taking place in what can only be viewed as a dangerous
anti-western strategy in the form of a Russian-Syrian-Iranian Axis.
more... The alliances have been there, evident by the actions of these nations. Iran has had no issues with publicly saying what their plans are because they believe their religious books declare them the winners and they feel this time is coming soon. The master of deception is very crafty. This is the alliance that attacks Israel but is destroyed in the mountains of Israel. The question is, are we at that point in history when it happens, or are we still just seeing the alliances form? Given the war raging in Lebanon between Israel and the terrorists, and the support offered to the terrorists by Syria and Iran, I see it happening sooner rather than later. That’s just an educated guess though. Keep watching! Thousands still without power in Queens (July 23, 2006) - About 12,000 to 16,000 New Yorkers entered their second week without electricity in the borough of Queens on Monday, a large improvement over the 100,000 affected during the height of the power outage. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a briefing that between 3,000 to 4,000 customers remained without electricity on Monday morning. A customer can represent anything from a single-family home to an entire apartment building, A customer could represent about four individuals. Bloomberg said Con Edison expected to make “big progress today.” Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Bruno said Con Edison is “doing a good job,” and he encouraged residents to support workers and say “hello” to them. more...
Massive blackout continues in St. Louis (July
23, 2006) - Nearly a quarter-million homes and businesses still had
no electricity Monday as the city struggled to recover from last week’s
devastating thunderstorms. The blackout kept air conditioners from running
as temperatures soared into triple digits. Four deaths in the region had
been blamed on the storms or the heat. As of Monday morning, about 231,000
homes customers were still without power, according to Ameren Corp. That
was down from the more than a half-million homes and businesses that lost
power when the storms struck last week. Some 4,000 utility workers from
as far away as Arizona have been working around the clock to restore service.
more... Heat prompts power emergency in Calif. (July 23, 2006) - Power companies worked to restore electricity to thousands of customers throughout California early Monday as a scorching heat wave threatened to push the state into a power emergency with the potential for more blackouts. Authorities were looking into several deaths possibly related to the high temperatures, which hit the triple digits in some areas on Sunday. With temperatures again expected to top 100 degrees, power demand was projected to reach an all-time high Monday and prompt some voluntary blackouts, in which some businesses agree to have their power shut off temporarily in exchange for lower rates, according to the Independent System Operator, California’s power grid manager. more... Looks like there’s power outages all over the U.S. Not sure what that means except that the weather is definitely affecting our normal way of life.
Turkey may Lead UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon
(July 22, 2006) - Turkey may have a leadership
role in the United Nations peacekeeping force that could be deployed in
Lebanon which has been under Israeli bombardment for over 10 days - the
pro-Bush Administration Washington Post daily reports. According to an article
by Thomas E. Ricks and Robin Wright in the US daily, planning for the force
is in the early stages, but US officials said they anticipate that it would
include from 10,000 to 20,000 troops led by a contingent from France or
Turkey. The same officials added, however, that the force currently being
discussed would not include U.S. troops since “they are already stretched
by operations in Iraq and Afghanistan” and “there are no troops to spare
for Lebanon”. “I do not think that it is anticipated that U.S. ground forces
are expected for that force,” the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
told on Friday. Key aspects of the peacekeeping force, such as which country
will lead it, its size, and its mission, are still being discussed at both
national and international levels. more... Wouldn’t this be fitting to have a nation on the side of the terrorists leading a “peacekeeping force” in Lebanon. Turkey is one of the invaders of Gog/Magog too!
Earthquake near Red Sea Opens Huge Rift on Land, Growing at Unprecedented
Rate (July 22, 2006) - New satellite data
shows the largest tear in the Earth’s crust - seen in decades, if not centuries,
and growing at an unprecedented rate - developing near the Red Sea., and
if it continues, it could create a new ocean in Africa. So says a report
in the BBC which states that the 37-mile long rift was sparked by
an earthquake in September. Dr Tim Wright from the University of Oxford,
UK, is quoted as saying that if the ripping of the crust continued, the
horn of Africa would eventually split off from the rest of the continent,
in about a million years. “We think if these processes continue, a new ocean
will eventually form,” he told the BBC News website. “It will connect
to the Red Sea and the ocean will flow in....It’s the biggest rifting episode
at least since the 1970s and possibly in hundreds of years. It’s the first
time we’ve been able to use satellite images to investigate the fundamental
processes behind rifting.” more... Expect to see more earthquakes in diverse places. Matthew 24:3-8
Turkish anti-West mood ‘rising’ (July 20, 2006)
- Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has warned that moderate Turks are
becoming anti-American and anti-EU. Mr Gul said many Turks were embittered
by the US’ support for Israel’s actions in Lebanon and by Turkey’s problems
in joining the EU. He also said Ankara could be forced to act to stop cross-border
raids by Kurdish rebels operating from Iraq. Mr Gul’s comments came in a
wide-ranging interview with the UK’s Financial Times newspaper. “Moderate
liberal people [in Turkey] are becoming anti-American and anti-EU,” he said.
“If our young, educated, dynamic and economically active people become bitter,
if their attitudes and feelings are changed, it is not good. “Their feeling
has changed towards these global policies and strategic issues. This is
dangerous.” On the EU accession talks, Mr Gul said failure to resolve the
dispute with Cyprus was “poisoning” the process that was formally launched
in June. Cyprus has threatened to veto the Turkish bid unless Ankara officially
recognises it and opens its ports and airports to Greek Cypriot ships and
planes. more... Hmm, go figure. Look two stories above.^
Scientists Consistently Disagree on Global Warming - Despite Media
Hype (July 17, 2006) - “. . . what the
public fails to grasp is that the claims neither constitute support for
alarm, nor establish man’s responsibility for the small amount of warming
that has occurred.” In a recent report in LiveScience, reporter Sara
Goudarzi contends that global climate change “has gone from being a scientific
actuality to a political wedge issue, used as a cudgel by parties of all
persuasions to point fingers and score points. Consequently, many people,
including scientists and politicians, can’t seem to arrive at an agreement
on the issue.” As a result, LiveScience recently reached out to several
experts and visionaries for their views on this controversial topic and
dug up published comments of others. About 11 “experts” were questioned,
each giving their opinion on the cause of global warming. They (the speakers)
range everywhere, from Al Gore, who has released a film on global warming,
to Richard Lindzen, professor of meteorology at Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, who says, “However, what the public fails to grasp is that
the claims neither constitute support for alarm, nor establish man’s responsibility
for the small amount of warming that has occurred. In fact, those who make
the most outlandish claims of alarm are actually demonstrating skepticism
of the very science they say supports them.” “It isn’t just that the alarmists
are trumpeting model results that we know must be wrong. It is that they
are trumpeting catastrophes that couldn’t happen even if the models were
right as justifying costly policies to try to prevent global warming.”
more... My two cents... Global warming is a reality, it's just not us that's doing it. Here is a chart showing scientific observation of the increase in energy throughout the whole solar system. I doubt our vehicle emissions have anything to do with decreased polar icecaps on Mars or increased activity of the sun. (which is a much more logical and scientific explanation for why the earth changes are happening.
Lake Powell Barely Half Full — Continues to Shrink
(July 20, 2006) - Lake Powell is barely half-full
and taking a quarter less runoff than expected this year -- a sign the Colorado
River basin remains in the grip of a multiyear drought, according to a new
report from government hydrologists. For some, Lake Powell is proving its
value, banking scarce water for dry years. Others say the reservoir may
never refill and should be drained to reveal the glory of Glen Canyon. The
effects of low water are everywhere, from the bathtub rings on canyon walls
to Hite Marina, left high and dry and shut down in 2003. At Bullfrog, the
boat launch resembles a tilted airport runway -- a concrete slab more than
a quarter-mile long. It had to be extended twice, in 2003 and 2004, by a
combined 660 feet, to reach its current 1,568-foot length. The launch will
go out of business if the water drops another 29 feet, officials say.

Iran, Syria Agree to Protect Hezbollah (July
20, 2006) - Iran and Syria have agreed to work together to keep Hezbollah
from being destroyed in its fight against Israel, Syria sources have said.
The sources, quoted in the Qatar newspaper Al-Watan, said the two governments
have agreed that Hezbollah must not be defeated politically or militarily
and they have agreed to do all they can to prevent such an outcome, ynetnews.com
reported Wednesday. Israel’s failure to defeat Hezbollah thus far is likely
to cause the country to turn its sights on Syria, the sources said. They
said such a move would cause Iran to get involved militarily, forcing Israel
to face a war on multiple fronts. Israel sent a message to Syria through
Jordan, warning the country against arming and supporting Hezbollah, a diplomatic
source in Tel Aviv told ynetnews.com. The warning said Israel was aware
of weapons convoys traveling from Syria to Lebanon, and that Damascus is
frequently the site of meetings between Hezbollah and Iranian officials.
The source did not confirm whether the message included a warning of military
action against the country. What? Why ever would they do that? Perhaps our appeasement strategies will not do a thing! They don't want anything but a Muslim world. Whoever doesn't agree, gets beheaded. How do you negotiate with that? BTW, beheading is the execution of choice by Islam, and so too with those killed for the witness of Yeshua (Jesus) during the antichrist's reign. Revelation 20:4 Sound familiar? Remember Iraq and those beheaded there. There is also a recent story about three Rosarito Beach Cops who were beheaded. Thirty
Injured By High Winds at Busch Stadium (July
19, 2006) - Thirty people were injured as high wind blew out press
box windows, overturned portable concession stands and ripped the tarp at
new Busch Stadium right before the start of Wednesday night’s game between
the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals won 8-2. Five
fans were taken to hospitals, according to Norm Corley, a supervisor with
Accu-Care, which handles medical issues at the stadium. One of them had
a dislocated hip, another a dislocated shoulder, two had back injuries and
a fifth had a seizure apparently unrelated to the storm, Corley said. The
start of the game was delayed 2 hours, 12 minutes as crews righted the concession
stands, cleaned up debris and mopped flooded areas. “This is the worst,”
said longtime fan Carol Backs-Wenneman of nearby St. Libory, Ill. “I was
wondering if the new stadium would hold up.” The strong storm, with wind
near 80 mph, also knocked windows out of a rooftop restaurant downtown,
downed trees and power lines and sprayed construction equipment and billboards
along interstate highways. It was unclear if the wind was the result of
tornados. Gary Christmann, a St. Louis emergency official, said it appeared
the damage came from “a lot of straight-line winds.” more...
Magnitude 3.6 Quake Closes Mount St. Helens Again
(July 19, 2006) - A magnitude 3.6 earthquake
shook Mount St. Helens Tuesday morning, one of the largest earthquakes recorded
during the ongoing eruption, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The 9:56 a.m.
quake triggered significant rock falls from the lava dome and crater walls
that sent plumes of dust to the rim. Lava has continued to push into the
crater -- most recently forming a sheer rock fin -- since the 8,364-foot
mountain reawakened with low-level seismic activity in September 2004. That
prompted closure of the mountain to climbers. The crater was formed by the
volcano's May 18, 1980, eruption, which killed 57 people and blasted about
1,300 feet off the 9,677-foot peak. The volcano reopens to climbers on Friday.
The National Volcanic Monument limits the number of climbers to 100 a day
and requires a permit available online through the Mount St. Helens Institute. It's only a matter of time I believe. With all the volcanic activity increasing all around the ring of fire and the increased earthquake activity both at St. Helens and Rainier, we should be prepared with at least food and water. It never hurts!
'Miracles' Amid Deadly Rocket Attacks in Israel
(July 18, 2006) - With the Hezbollah terrorist
group firing hundreds of deadly Katyusha rockets into Israeli population
centers the past few days, stories here have been surfacing of citizens
with close encounters who escaped unharmed. "While the life of even
one single person is precious and its loss is tragic nevertheless one cannot
stand by and watch almost 1,000 rockets being fired into Israel, causing
a death toll of only 18, and not be struck with awe at such a miracle,"
Avraham Shmuel Lewin, a Tel Aviv rabbi, told WND. Since Hezbollah provoked
the current violence last Wednesday with a raid against an Israeli military
patrol unit, the Lebanese militia has launched more than 700 rockets at
northern Israeli towns, including Kiryat Shmona, Acre, Tiberias, Talal,
Julis, Abu Snan, Kafr Yassif, Nahariya, Afula and the Jezreel Valley in
lower Galilee. more... These kinds of miracles happened in the six-day-war too. I've seen a picture of a house totally collapsed after a rocket destroyed it. In the picture, a stunned and confused resident is seen climbing out of this pile of rubble that was his house. He didn't have a scratch on him. I read other stories too.
Iran's Ahmadinejad: Israel's Destruction at Hand
(July 23, 2006) - "Israel has pushed
the button of its own destruction," said the Iranian president, who
pulls the strings of its terrorist proxies on both of Israel's fronts. "The
Zionists made their worst decision and triggered their extinction by attacking
Lebanon." Ahmadinejad, addressing the 23rd Iranian Islamic Republic's
nationwide meeting of the heads of educational bureaus, advised Jewish Israelis "to
pack up and move out of the region before being caught in the fire they
have started in Lebanon." Last week, Ahmadinejad was shown on Iranian
television saying Israelis "Should know that the volcano of rage of
the peoples of the region is boiling...I'm telling you...If this volcano
erupts - and we are on the brink of eruption... and if this ocean rages,
its waves will not be limited to the region. Ahmadinejad, seemingly responding
to the first two planeloads of American Jews making Aliyah (immigrating
to Israel) this summer, accused Israel of deceiving the olim. "They
are even lying to the misfortunate people whom they have imported into occupied
Palestine," he said. "They are using them as a shield to achieve
their own goals." more... I suppose his own words don't mean anything because there are still those trying to appease and work out political deals. Does he sound like he's going for any of that? Well, he's talking the same genocidal talk he was months ago, only now he's promising the fulfillment of it soon. Hello world, wake up!
Sleeper Hizbullah cells activated (July 23, 2006)
- Hizbullah "sleeper" terror cells set up outside Lebanon with
Iranian assistance have been put on standby The Jerusalem Post learned
on Sunday, and are likely planning attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets
throughout the world. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) confirmed to
the Post Sunday night that it had instructed embassies, consulates
and Jewish institutions it was responsible for abroad to raise their level
of awareness in light of the conflict in the North. The assumption within
Military Intelligence is that Hizbullah would only attack targets abroad
if it felt pushed into a corner. According to this thinking, the Islamist
group hesitates to carry out such attacks because it does not want to be
associated with Global Jihad and al-Qaida. more... They're already here. I heard and recorded a clip from Savage Nation on July 20, where he interviewed Debbie Schlessel. I don't have web space to provide it here. Sorry about that. Anyways, she has been going to mosques in the Detroit area and is sounding the warning bells. There are also active training camps in America training Muslims in combat. Remember the three beheaded border guards? It's a lot closer to home than many want to believe. Iran planning
to strike Israel? (July 22, 2006) - Tehran
ordered the current Hizb'allah rocket assault on Israel in order to swamp
Israeli defenses and open the door for an Iranian missile strike on Israel's
population centers, wrote a group of Iranian exiles in a full-page ad published
in Wednesday's Washington Times. The Azadegan Foundation, led by former
Iranian diplomat Assad Homayoun, warned that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
intends to use weapons of mass destruction against the Jewish state. "We
have know for some four years that Iran's clerical leadership has, mostly
through Syria and with active participation from Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad, been pouring thousands of Zalzal-2 and Fajr rockets and missiles
into HizbAllah and Iranian Revolutionary Guard (Pasdaran) units in Lebanon's
Beqa'a Valley, for use against Israel. "Now they are being used. And,
clearly, this is only the beginning. They are the mass barrages meant to
swamp regional defenses so that Iran's strategic Shahab-3 ballistic missiles
and other weapons can deliver WMD against Israel and other targets in the
region." Adding to the growing sense of concern is the fact that Ahmadinejad
earlier this week announced to Muslims throughout the region that a great
day of "rejoicing" would soon be upon them. If Iran's aim is to
divert Israel's missile defense systems away from its densely populated
central regions, it appears to be working. World Tribune reported Wednesday
that Israel is "urgently pooling its missile defense assets to defend
against" the Hizb'allah threat in the north. more... This is straight Bible prophecy, the Gog/Magog invasion. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least. It will surprise them though! Ezekiel 38:18-23
Hezbollah Nourished by Iran, Syria Roots (July
22, 2006) - The Hezbollah military machine that has been attacking
Israel draws much of its strength from two shadowy sources that are proving
difficult to cut off: Syria and Iran. The two countries, which President
Bush blames for fomenting terrorism and destabilizing the Middle East, provide
Hezbollah with training, weapons and financing, according to Western intelligence
officials who are working to stem the flow of aid. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich.,
a House Intelligence Committee member who was briefed on the Middle East
situation during a recent trip to Iraq, said Syria has more than 1,000 agents
in southern Lebanon, working either directly for Syrian intelligence or
compensated by Syria for information. He says they are there "to cause
trouble" and help prop up Hezbollah militarily. more... Again, here's some more background as to what's really going on in the Middle East. What the mainstream media seems blind to.
US Says Iran Witnessed North Korean Missile Tests
(July 21, 2006) - The United States said on
Thursday Iran had attended North Korean missile tests this month, increasing
U.S. concern about ties between two countries Washington accuses of having
secret nuclear weapons programmes. No comment on the U.S. charge was immediately
available from Iran, which earlier accused Washington of trying to obstruct
talks to end a standoff over Tehran's nuclear programme. The accusations
were traded as the U.N. Security Council wrangled over a resolution to make
legally binding demands Iran halt uranium enrichment, a process that can
produce fuel for power stations or bomb material. Iran again rejected international
calls for it to scrap nuclear fuel production. more... No big surprise here! It seems that everyone that hates the West is coming together quite nicely.
Russia Criticizes Israel For Offensive (July
21, 2006) - Russia on Thursday sharply criticized Israel for its
offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, saying it went "far
beyond the boundaries of an anti-terrorist operation" and repeating
calls for an immediate cease-fire. The Foreign Ministry said Russia affirms
the need to fight terrorism and called for the immediate release of captive
Israeli soldiers, but it added that "the unprecedented scale of the
casualties and destruction" in Lebanon indicates that Israel is using
too much force. more... No big surprise that Russia, Iran, Syria, and Turkey are all criticizing Israel's self-defense of her population. They're all the ones who are going to try and attack Israel and wipe Israel off the map. They don't realize they're dealing with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Keep watching!
Ma'an: Nasrallah Will Give Tel Aviv Residents One Hour To Flee
(July 21, 2006) - The unnamed sources are
quoted by the Palestinian Authority-based news agency Ma'an as saying: "The
Lebanese resistance is preparing a retaliation parallel to Israel's military
actions. Hassan Nasrallah will address the people of Tel Aviv and warn them
to evacuate the city within one hour. As soon as the delay ends, hundreds
of heavy missiles will start landing in the city, which has been divided
into squares in order to let damage reach every inch of the city. An estimated
500 missiles are expected to land in Tel Aviv in a short period of time."
The Arab sources further said that the Hizbullah has been very careful in
cultivating its public image, in order to increase the surprise effect of
the planned barrage on Tel Aviv. more... This hasn't been followed through with yet. Hopefully, Israel has interrupted their ability.
Syrians Defiant, Outraged At Lebanon's Destruction
(July 21, 2006) - Next to the Umayyad mosque
in old Damascus, Samir Hamsho plastered a Hizbollah flag and a picture of
its leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah outside his antique textiles and carpets
shop. "We are fed up with Israeli insolence. You will be surprised
how many ordinary Syrians will turn into human bombs if Israel attacks this
country," Hamsho said. "The Zionists have shown their savagery
by attacking Lebanon like this, but they don't scare us." Across the
country, Syrians have reacted with defiance and outrage to Israeli attacks
on Lebanon and statements by the Jewish state that the Baathist government
is sending weapons to Hizbollah fighters. The government has denied re-supplying
the Lebanese group and officials have vowed to respond to any attack, although
they have shown little sign of preparing for war. more...
250 N. American Jews Move to Israel Despite War
(July 20, 2006) - In what organizers have
billed "the ultimate solidarity mission," hundreds of Jews from
North America chose to pack their bags and leave the comfort and stability
of the United States and Canada for the rocketed State of Israel Thursday.
The olim [new immigrants to Israel] were greeted by former Prime Minister
Binyamin Netanyahu, Efrat’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, who himself came
on Aliyah more than two decades ago together with many members of his congregation,
Nefesh b'Nefesh co-founder Rabbi Yehoshua Fass, and representatives of the
Jewish Agency and the Absorption Ministry. "Israel is not Disneyland.
We don't just come to Israel when it is fun and sun," said Rabbi Riskin.
“Israel is our motherland - we come to our mother when she needs us." "Israel
needs you," Riskin added, "but it is a two-way street - each of
you also needs Israel. What anyone does in the Diaspora is a footnote in
our history, what is being written here is the chapter heading."

Hizbullah Has Shot 1,600 Rockets into Israel in 8 Days, 20 Thursday Morning,
Herzog (July 21, 2006) - Katyusha fire
from Lebanon resumed over Tiberias, Carmiel, Rosh Pinah and Galilee Thursday
morning, Day Nine of the Hizballah war. Wednesday night, a Katyusha rocket
killed two brothers aged 3 and 7, Rabiya and Mahmoud Taluzi, as they played
outside their home in Nazareth. Twenty-seven people were injured. Up to
200 Katyusha rockets in wave after furious wave struck Galilee Wednesday
afternoon, singling out Haifa, Carmiel, Tiberias, Nahariya and Safed, where
there were four casualties and substantial damage. The smaller villages
of Reches Ramim, Givat Avni and Kiryat Tivon also took punishment. Rockets
started several fires and caused heavy damage to the Hula Valley’s farm
crops and orchards at peak picking season. A main water pipe was damaged
in Afula, leaving large area without water. Click

for full-size map. One third of Israel is a warfront. Thousands of refugees
have gone south out of harm’s way. Central Israeli towns, kibbutzim and
moshavim have opened their homes to host refugees. More than a million civilians
with many children are incarcerated in bomb shelters on the ninth day of
Hizballah rocket fire. As a result, civilian casualties have been kept down
to 15 dead. Israel’s third largest city Haifa is a ghost town, its key port
and universities closed. Businesses, shops and summer schools are shut;
factories and farms have suffered heavy damage. The tourist season at its
peak is disrupted. Emergency teams and police are working overtime. And still Europe and the Islamic world are up in arms about Israel's attempts to stop the rockets.
Almost 500,000 Without Power in St. Louis (July
20, 2006) - Powerful storms left nearly half a million homes and
businesses without power early Thursday with the region expecting another
day of 100-degree heat. The summer storm that tore through the Midwest on
Wednesday ripped roofs off buildings, toppled trees and injured more than
30 people. The city's light rail system was down, and a building partially
collapsed, injuring at least two people. At least 486,000 customers lost
power, according to utility company AmerenUE. Winds near 80 mph blew out
press box windows and ripped the tarp at the new Busch Stadium before the
start of a baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.
Five fans were taken to hospitals and at least 25 others were also injured,
according to Norm Corley, a supervisor with Accu-Care, which handles medical
issues at the stadium. The wind was also knocked windows out of a rooftop
restaurant, downed trees and power lines, and ripped off a section of roof
off Lambert- St. Louis International Airport. MetroLink, the city's light
rail system, was down said Police Chief Joe Mokwa. "This is one of
the worst storms we can all remember to hit the city of St. Louis in recent
years," St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said.
Europe Gasps as Heat wave Temperatures Soar (July
19, 2006) - Much of western Europe sweltered under tropical temperatures
Wednesday, as a heat wave claimed its seventh victim since the start of
the week. Authorities in the eastern French town of Macon said a 53 year-old
road-labourer died overnight of "malign hyperthermia" after working
outside in temperatures of 33 degrees Centigrade (91.4 Fahrenheit). Two
elderly people died Tuesday in southwestern France as a result of the heat,
and in the Netherlands two people died on the opening day of an annual walking
event at Nijmegen. In Spain a man who died of heat exhaustion in the northwest
region of Galicia was the second to succumb after a man died in Murcia in
the southeast on Sunday.
Ecuador Volcanic Eruption Destroys 19,000 Hectares of Farmland
(July 19, 2006) - The Ecuadorian President's
Office said on Tuesday that the Tungurahua Volcano, currently erupting in
central Ecuador, had destroyed 19,000 hectares of farmland. Tungurahua had
destroyed 12,000 hectares in Chimborazo and 7,000 in Tungurahua, the Foreign
Ministry said. The 5,029-meter-high volcano, which is showering the region
with ash and burning hot lava, entered a critical phase on Friday that might
last for months or years. It has devastated villages that have maize, potato,
cereal and livestock farms and affected more than 13,000 people.
Are You Ready for Your North American Union ID Card?
(July 20, 2006) - Human Events Online has
been leading the coverage of the so-called “Security and Prosperity Partnership,”
a unilateral program implemented by the Bush Administration designed to
set the course for a North American Union that would subsume our national
sovereignty. A de facto treaty signed by the leaders of Canada, Mexico,
and the U.S., the agreement was never submitted to the Senate for ratification.
Now it can be revealed that plans for the North American Union include a
tri-national “North American Union” ID card. Recent testimony to Congress
by a Homeland Security official reinforces the point. At a June 8 hearing
before an immigration subcommittee, DHS counselor and acting assistant secretary
Paul Rosenzweig touted something called the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative
(WHTI). In doing so, he cited the SPP and bragged that under the SPP, “Cabinet
Secretaries and Ministers convened trilateral working groups to develop
concrete work plans and specific timetables for securing North America and
