Pearls In ScriptureIn Matthew 13:45-46, Jesus uses a strange image, the pearl. What’s interesting, as Chuck Missler pointed out, is that oysters are not kosher! Deuteronomy 14:10 The Jews didn’t value them much. Matthew 13:45,46 We see here an image of the Christian, whether Jew or Gentile, putting aside all worldly wealth to gain the pearl of great price, Yeshua. This theme is played out several times in scripture, most clearly in Luke 18:18-27. The pearl is the only “jewel” that is the result of a living organism growing as a response to irritation and it is removed from its place of growth to become an item of adornment! Gates of Pearls on New JerusalemRevelation 21:21I believe it is significant that to enter New Jerusalem, one must pass through the gates of pearls given the symbology of the pearl of great price and the similar symbology of Yeshua being the door. John 10:1-18 | Matthew 25:1-13 Moreover there are twelve gates, which is a very repetitive theme from the 12 tribes of Israel to the 12 disciples and elsewhere. There would be three gates to enter the city on each side. Pearls of wisdomMatthew 7:6-8 Those with too much pride will resist the Gospel and not everyone loves our Lord’s coming. There are many pearls of wisdom in scripture that can only be understood with study of God’s Word and to really understand, we must have a heart that is open and searching for the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The heart that is closed to God will take the presentation of His Word and malign and mock. I believe this is how many are blinded because they never dig enough into the expansive Word given to us to see the interconnected nature that is proof that God is who He says He is and means what He says. Especially in today’s world of rushing and short-sightedness do we see a further departure from God’s Word more evident as time goes on. I believe this is a large contributor to the apostasy prophesied to come in the last days. In addition to the above, I’d like to use this page as a jumping point for other lesser-known yet profound “pearls” in scripture. Some are foreshadowing, which happens throughout scripture that has really strengthened my faith. Some are just interesting little side notes I probably wouldn’t have caught on my own studies. Many of these are provided by Chuck Missler and I’m continually taking snippets of audio (below) and other information that will be referenced from this page so check back every now and again to see what else there is to learn. AudioThe following are some audio clips from various studies that I thought highlight the pearls of scripture that many of us don’t find on our own. I hope these strengthen your faith as much as they have mine. |
